De Computis - A Name Rich in History

Our name - De Computis - is rich in history and dates back to the Middle Ages, when the genesis of international commercial trade gave rise to the need for a definitive system of accounting and bookkeeping.

It was in the year 1494 - just two years after Columbus discovered America that Luca Pacioli, a true Renaissance man with knowledge of literature, art, mathematics, business and the sciences, published his Summa, which included 36 chapters on bookkeeping, entitled " De Computis et Scripturis" ("Of Reckonings and Writings"), [which] were written, "in order that the subjects of the most gracious Duke of Urbino may have complete instructions in the conduct of business," and to, "give the trader without delay information as to his assets and liabilities." (translation by J.B. Geijsbeek, "Ancient Double Entry Bookkeeping: Lucas Pacioli's Treatise," 1914).

In De Computis, Pacioli declares that "the successful merchant needs three things: (1) sufficient cash or credit, (2) good bookkeepers and (3) an accounting system which allows him to view his finances at a glance." To this day, De Computis is the foundation of knowledge on which all of today's accounting is based. In short, De Computis is the way that business should be run.

The De Computis logo is consistent with rich historical tradition. For Renaissance artists, polyhedra often demonstrated a mastery of perspective, provided inspiration and were often symbolic of deep philosophical truths. The rhombicuboctahedron that inspired the De Computis logo is prominently featured in Barbari's famous painting that resides at the National Museum of Italy in Naples.

Our firm was founded in 2005 with the goal of providing a private, select list of clients with superior service that enables them to achieve an advantage over their competition.
